    First Annual District LFISD Chess Tournament

    LFISD held its First Annual District Chess Tournament on Saturday, May 21st, 2016 at Sam Houston Elementary. Seventy-seven participants from pre-kindergarten to high school competed in five rounds of play throughout the day. The Chess Program is in its first year of implementation and is led by Rusty Harwood. The campus chess coaches include Jesus Echeverria, La Feria High School; John Velez, W. B. Green Jr. High; Ernie Garcia, Noemi Dominguez Elementary; Marcy Garcia, C. E. Vail Elementary; Debbie Garza, David G. Sanchez Elementary; and Elida Rubio, Sam Houston Elementary. The program has shown significant growth throughout this year. On a weekly basis, over 100 students practice before and after school.

    The La Feria Independent School District is located in the City of La Feria, in the middle of the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The school district is classified as a CONFERENCE 4A DIVISION 1 school and has a student population of 3,597 students. The district is comprised of seven campuses.

    Please be aware that the 3rd – 8th grade Spring 2016 Confidential Student Reports for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) assessment will be available to be picked up by the parents starting on Thursday, July 21, 2016.  You may pick up the reports between the hours of 8:00-4:00 at the campus that your child tested at in the Spring of 2016.  If you do not pick up the reports by registration, the CSRs will be distributed with your registration packet.  Thank you.
